Job Description Hours The training period will be day shift and then will move to 3rd Shift once trained. Position Summary The QA Technician is responsible for approving and signing off on all shipments of industrial products prior to shipment. Analyze and maintain records on incoming grain, in-process product, and finished product. Report QA issues to Lab Manager/ QA Manager and operators to ensure production is corrected and product meets specifications for safe quality product. Maintain lab in a safe and sanitary condition. Assist in and be prepared for all in-house inspections, outside audits, and all customer inspections. Essential Job Functions Maintenance, Service, and Documentation: Perform Quality Control and Assurance procedures including, but not limited to: Moisture determination Bulk density Absorption Granulation sieve analysis Enzyme level determinations Foreign material counts Sample product that has already been packaged to determine if it meets quality specifications Refer to product specifications either in hard copy or electronic format Use product specifications to make decisions on allowing product to be shipped or to be put on Hold. Put material on Hold as per the Product Hold Policy Monitor Production Operators and notify appropriate supervisors if they are not carrying out their Quality Control duties including, proper documentation of findings. Assist Production Operators when circumstances warrant Ensure that incoming material is thoroughly inspected, including inspecting incoming ingredients Equipment: Ensure that the lab equipment is clean and ready for the next shift Handle and work with chemicals safely Restock chemicals as needed Miscellaneous Duties: Other possible duties to be assigned on an individual basis including, but not limited to Ash analysis Fat and free fatty acid determinations Issue Certificates of Analysis for products o Database maintenance Data entry May also be assigned other tasks or jobs at the Laboratory Supervisor's discretion including, but not limited to: Internal audits Research Product development Preferred Qualifications Associates or higher college degree in science or two years of experience in a Quality Control laboratory Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Ability to follow a procedure from written instructions Must work quickly with precision and accuracy Work with chemicals safely Be observant Possess good decision-making skills Multitasking at a high level Ability to work with others in a team environment. Ability to meet the Physical Demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Must follow the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and Safety Guidelines as per Grain Millers, Inc. policies. Physical Demands Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Product sampling may require climbing, maneuvering in tight spaces, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders multiple times per shift, and maneuver in tight spaces on equipment catwalks.
