Position description

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is seeking a Physician Scientist with an interest in translational research topics such as particle therapy, personalized medicine, novel radiation-drug combination strategies, proteomics, immunotherapy, circulating tumor markers, or epigenetic modification. Candidates should have exceptional clinical competency and a demonstrated trajectory in translational research.

The position will have protected research time. Priority will be given to applicants with existing grant funding, although all candidates are invited to apply.

The Mayo Clinic Department of Radiation Oncology is a leading center for innovation and excellence in patient care. The department has a fully accredited residency program with 12 medical residents and the position includes participation in education efforts for residents and medical students. A wide diversity of treatment modalities are available, including six LINACS, a four gantry proton center, brachytherapy, SBRT, intraoperative radiotherapy, Gamma Knife, clinical trials, and translational research. Over 5,000 patients are treated yearly within the department, consisting of 32 MDs.

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota was ranked the No. 1 hospital overall in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals 2020-2021, and ranked No.3 in the nation in cancer. Mayo Clinic Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center - the only one with three geographic sites - in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Ariz.; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Rochester, Minn. The Cancer Center receives over $100 million in competitive peer-review grants annually, including the NCI's highly sought Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) grants. The Mayo Clinic Cancer Center has five NCI SPORE grants, including a lymphoma SPORE grant that is shared with the University of Iowa: breast cancer, hepatobiliary cancer, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and ovarian cancer.

License or certification

Qualified candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
