Position description

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of epileptologists, neurosurgeons, engineers, scientists and technicians involved in the arc spanning discovery science, translation, and application to human neurologic disorders. The engineer will be responsible for data processing, developing and customizing applications, developing and maintaining database systems and integrating systems with institutional infrastructure. The ideal candidate will work independently under the direction of mentors to develop and test software, perform analysis, and communicate progress verbally and in writing. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop analytical tools and contribute to publications in support of lab goals. There is some limited system management required for the computational resources in a lab of ~15 people that span a wide range of computer capabilities, including undergraduate & graduate students, and physicians.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering or engineering-related field (such as physics, movement sciences); a master's degree in a mechanically-inclined engineering field is preferred. Research experience should be demonstrated in the focus areas of the biomechanics lab: finite element modeling, material testing, kinematic analysis, or modeling. Additional experience should be noted in several of the following areas: equipment design, orthopedics/anatomy, statistical analysis, imaging analysis, computer programming (Matlab, C, LabView).

Requires ability to work independently and with a variety of people at all levels both within and outside of the institution. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required. Must demonstrate multitasking skills, and serve as an appropriate mentor when needed. Must be able to apply analytical and problem-solving methodologies, and frequently seek continuous improvement of technological projects.

This position has an end date of 9/30/2022. This position could turn into an ongoing position.

Additional qualifications

Background in machine learning packages (Tensor Flow, Keras) and techniques, Knowledge of signal processing, filtering, and time series analysis, and database management. Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The candidate must be well organized and detail oriented, and must work well with a diverse group of physicians, scientists, and engineers.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $2518.40, based on a full-time position.
