The nurse technician performs delegated tasks of direct and
indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse
(RN). The designated tasks are those which have been taught in the
academic programs and/or orientation, and where the individual has
demonstrated competence to a designated RN. The functions are those
limited by law to unlicensed personnel. Additional duties and
responsibilities may be assigned in accordance with the state’s
Nurse Practice Act. Nurse Technicians hired into
Hematology/Oncology specific areas will care for patients including
(but not limited to) adult patients with solid tumors, those
undergoing autologous or allogeneic bone marrow transplants or
peripheral blood stem cell transplants, patients with lymphoma,
leukemic, multiple myeloma, and various hematopoietic disorders.
Patients may be hospitalized during various stages of their
wellness/illness including from initial diagnosis through active
treatment, recovery, or death. Qualifications Successful completion
of junior year of baccalaureate nursing program, successful
completion of 2 semesters of associate nursing program, or
successful completion of two full clinical rotations of a direct
entry Master of Science in nursing program. Successful completion
of Basic Life Support (BLS). Able to adapt to unpredictable
situations within the patient care setting and deal with stress
caused by the care of patients. Additional Qualifications Students
must be enrolled in the University of Minnesota’s nursing program
and have reviewed all additional academic coursework associated
with the Hematology/Oncology nursing student pathway. Please
include a letter of recommendation from your academic institution
with your application materials. Application deadline will be
January 12th, 2026. Internal applicants should submit their three
most recent performance appraisals. Must obtain prior to start
date: BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start
date – acceptable BLS certificates are American Heart Association:
“BLS Provider” or American Red Cross: “Basic Life Support” or
“CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers”
Exemption Status Nonexempt Compensation Detail This position has a
predetermined rate of $22.65 per hour. Benefits Eligible Yes
Schedule Full Time Hours/Pay Period 60-72 Schedule Details Variable
schedule including days/evenings/nights./n8- or 12-hour shifts.
