Responsibilities Location : Eisenberg 73/74B (EI 73/74B), Hematology/Oncology/Cellular Therapy (General Care) Patient Care Type: This unit specializes in patients with cancer-specifically patients with hematologic disorders and cancers. The unit provides acute inpatient and hospital-based outpatient nursing care to patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and various hematopoietic disorders. Patients may be hospitalized during various stages of their wellness/illness from initial diagnosis through active treatment, recovery, and through end of life. Nursing care is provided primarily to adults 18 years and over. Patients are also followed as a hospital-based outpatient as part of this patient care unit, after hospital discharge and as required by our Cellular Therapy program including chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy program (CAR-T). Nurses from this unit are also able to train to this advanced role near their 2-year mark. The nursing practice in this setting is fast-paced and nurses can practice advanced nursing skills outside of standard inpatient nursing skills, which include cellular therapy administration, research infusions, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, central line care, patient triage, etc. Bed : Newly remodeled 17 private inpatient rooms equipped with HEPA air filtration systems designed to protect immunosuppressed patients from airborne infections, ceiling lifts, Hercules devices, and Caregility devices in each room. 27 total bed and chair rooms in our hospital-based outpatient unit, which opened in 2022. Nursing Team Roles: Nursing care includes chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T) therapy, blood transfusions, antibiotic therapy, infusion therapy, central line care, and intensive supportive therapies for immunocompromised patients. As part of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, the unit participates in individual and group cancer research programs. Emotional support, patient/family education, and discharge planning and coordination are integral components of nursing care provided. Care is provided in a holistic, patient-centered approach. Staff will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care. For new grad nurses: All newly graduated Registered Nurses with less than 12 months of practice experience, hired into a scheduled FTE Registered Nurse position on the Rochester campus of Mayo Clinic are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program . A separate application or enrollment process is not required. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic, regardless of experience, will receive an extensive orientation program. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification. Qualifications Student or graduate of an accredited, or those in the candidacy process, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is required. All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date. All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire. Additional Qualifications: One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills. Internal applicants should submit their three most recent performance appraisals. Must obtain prior to start date: Current RN license by applicable state requirements. BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date - acceptable BLS certificates are American Heart Association: "BLS Provider" or American Red Cross: "Basic Life Support" or "CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers" Exemption Status Nonexempt Compensation Detail The pay for this role is $42.84 - $65.84.
