Position description
Performs analyses on blood, tissue, and body fluids to aid health care providers in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of patients. Participates in the operational support activities necessary to maintain and optimize testing capabilities. Testing is performed in specialized laboratories and may include highly skilled manual techniques or automated testing using sophisticated instrumentation. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: instrument operation and maintenance, troubleshooting assays, evaluating tests for accuracy, assisting with interpreting results, and operational support activities to optimize testing. Works with multiple computer systems to retrieve information and report results. May work with minimal supervision and may assist with specimen collection. Must strictly adhere to safety protocols to work with infectious specimens, chemicals and other hazards.

Provides cell manufacturing support for the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. HCTL staff are involved in product processing, cryopreservation, and storage, along with preparation for administration to the intended recipient. HCTL also performs flow cytometry, including dosing of the blood and marrow transplant products and fetomaternal bleed quantification. Must strictly adhere to safety protocols to work with infectious specimens, chemicals and other hazards.

Maintains compliance with AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks), Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The HCTL also maintains compliance with applicable sections of the code of federal regulations including, current Good Manufacturing Processes and current Good Tissue Practices ().

**A two-year commitment to this position is required**

Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science (MLS), clinical laboratory science (CLS) or medical technology (MT) or Bachelor's plus Certificate in medical laboratory science (MLS), clinical laboratory science (CLS), or medical technology (MT), as recognized by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is required. A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree.

Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a biological science is required. Preferred: Must be capable of producing accurate results under time constraints, multi-tasking, and performing in a fast-paced and changing environment.

**This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program**

Additional qualifications
Experience with operation and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and assay systems is desirable. Must be capable of producing accurate results under time constraints, multi-tasking, and performing in a fast-paced and changing environment. Must possess good communication skills and be able to work closely with others. Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, on-call, and weekend work assignments.

Require a valid driver's license and expected to be able to get to Rochester within -30 minutes during call weeks.

      Compensation Detail
      Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $28.79 per hour.

      Hours / Pay period

      Schedule details
      Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. (can vary with bench by +/- 1/2 hour)
      Additional hours as required to meet work unit needs
      On call 5:00 pm to 7:30 am: 1 in 10 weeks (Monday through Sunday)
      Rotating patient-specific on-call: 1 in 10 patients (- 6-8 times per year)

      Weekend schedule
      Saturday and Sunday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm: 1 in 10 weeks (coincides with on-call week)
