Job Description:
The Minneapolis VA Health Care System (VAHCS) is seeking an
academic physician leader to become the Director of its Mental
Health Integrated Clinical Community (ICC). The successful
candidate will lead a large and diverse staff of clinicians,
researchers, and administrators, including physicians, nurses,
social workers, psychologists, vocational specialists, peer support
specialists, and administrative support personnel. The Director is
responsible for the overall operations and management of all Mental
Health services, providing strategic leadership that fosters
continued growth in research and education and strong working
alliances with the University of Minnesota and VA leadership at
local, regional (VISN 23), and national levels.Essential
qualifications include excellent interpersonal and clinical skills,
creative problem-solving ability, flexibility of thought,
"big-picture" thinking, and deftness in leading and working within
inter and multi-disciplinary groups. The successful candidate will
qualify for an academic appointment at the University of Minnesota
at the Associate or Full Professor level and should have a proven
track record of mentoring junior faculty. This position offers a

multi-specialty, tertiary care 1A facility that is consistently
ranked among the top VA facilities in quality of patient care
services. It has a robust research program, including numerous
federally funded mental health investigators with expertise in
post-traumatic stress disorder, post-deployment health,
schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, and opioid use disorder. The
Minneapolis VAHCS is an essential training site for the University
of Minnesota Medical School and Psychiatry Residency Program, as
well as for several other clinical training programs (e.G. VA
psychology training program, social work trainees from a variety of
schools, and a VA interprofessional training program). The
Minneapolis-Saint Paul area offers an exciting arts, theater and

cited as having the best city park system in the country. DutiesThe
successful candidate will assume the roles of Director of the
Mental and Behavioral Health ICC and the head of Psychiatry. They
will be responsible for the clinical operations of the service line
as well as overseeing academic and research responsibilities. They
will ensure inter and multi-disciplinary collaboration in the
development and implementation of treatment plans, clinical
services and programs; develop, implement, andoversee undergraduate
and graduate medical educational activities; build the ICC's
research enterprise; direct all activities including budget and
fiscal management, Human Resources Management, strategic planning,
and program management; provide consultation and guidance in the
development of policy and procedures based on evidenced based
practice standards; and develop and maintain programs in the areas
of professional peer review, organizational improvement, continuing
education, clinical privileging and other improvement activities.
They will be part of the Minneapolis VAHCS Executive Leadership
team and will report to the Chief of Staff. This position will be
filled by a board-certified psychiatrist. At least 3 years in a
Mental Health leadership position and some experience in a VA
