Kelly Engineering is currently representing several companies in
the Rochester, NY area, supporting the hire of several Controls
Engineer and Electrical Engineers- Mid-Level to Sr. Level! - Direct
Hire.
Skill-sets required:
Role One:
Our client, a custom builder of motion controls systems, is hiring
a Controls Engineer, Direct Hire.The Controls Engineer will work
with a team of sophisticated Systems Engineers designing, building
and programming high performance multi-axis and single axis motion
control products.(Prototyping hardware, software, tweaking motion
design, development; debugging;delivery of subsystem of larger
systems, or any custom builds, etc.).The right person will either
have a strong Systems Engineering background with motion controls,
or, the right core education and skills, combined with a great
attitude and work ethic to learn motion control products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Designs, develops and supports industrial automation systems with
Motion Control products.
Interface with Sales Group as Technical Advisor in Discovery phase
of new Control/Turnkey System opportunities.
Develop control system bills of material based upon Catalog Items
for quoting to customer.
Provide estimated Non-Recurring Engineering hours for development
of control systems.
Provide estimated Recurring Engineering hours for debug,
commissioning and assembly of control systems.
Interfaces with customers to develop machine control specifications
for customer specific applications, which may include Development
of Application Specific software related to the project &
Development of UL Rated Electrical Assemblies.
Identify and recommend control panel hardware as well as
coordination of material purchases.
Oversees construction of electrical assembles by manufacturing
department staff.
Coordination for commissioning and Debug of hardware and software
in-house as well as on-site.
Provide support to customer service department, includes but not
limited to phone and on-site support.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (Technical Degree); with at least 5-10 years of
experience as a Systems or ControlsEngineer, with an excellent
understanding of mechanical/machine operations. The right person
strong in Motion Controls with a Master's Degree and 1-3 yrs.
manufacturing/industry/industrial/professional experience may be
considered. The right Controls Engineer with at least 8 yrs.
professional experience with an Associate's Degree may also be
considered.
Industrial Controllers and programming experience with IEC 61131-3
Compliant Software in one or more of the following languages: 1)
Relay Ladder Logic, 2) Structured Text, 3) Sequential Function
Charts, 4) Function Block Diagrams, 5) Instruction Lists, or, 6)
AutoCAD/SolidWorks 2D.
Must is motion controls experience (Applicants that interview will
be asked- "How do you program in motion?" One of the rights answers
needs to be, with Structured Text, Vision, orRelay Ladder Logic,
or, with a function block diagram or instruction list, or with
CAD).
Other Skills and Abilities:
Development and understanding of Industrial Motion Control
Applications.
Troubleshooting and resolution experience.
Mechanical aptitude including ability for servo motor sizing.

Role 2:
Electrical Controls Engineer(Rochester, NY)
Our client, a custom machine builder, is currently adding a Direct
Hire Controls Engineer to their staff. (This is a tenured team of
very talented Engineers. Reason they are hiring- Two just retired,
and two more will retire in the next 3-5 years. The need to train
an Engineer is now, so there is ample time to develop the right
person).
The Controls Engineer will support software controls technicians,
mechanical engineering and electrical departments by creating
PLC/HMI programs, commissioning equipment, and performing runoffs
that meets clients' requirements. Other responsibilities will
include working with customer specifications to create electrical
designs of industrial machine controls and safety circuits.
Responsibilities:
Front to back Design and programming PLC, HMI, Programming/debug +
Support PLC, HMI Electrical controls/pneumatics knowledge.
Design and modify controls software and hardware for a variety of
machine build projects.
Design and program sophisticated control systems.
Simulate, test, and debug control systems in-house.
Startup systems at the end-users facility.
Provide continuing system technical support over the phone or
on-site. Identifying and defining the best technical solution and
technical strategy for a customer.
Participating in project proposals and discussions with our sales
engineers and their customers. Designing and authoring control
software to customer specifications.
Software code will allow our hardware systems to properly control
customer motion control equipment.
HMI Human Machine Interface programming (factory Talk and Siemens
Winn CC flex, etc.).
Design/debugging electrical and software interfaces of machine
tools and robot/automated loaders. Electrical and software design
of machine/automation (safety circuits E-stops, safety guarding,
etc.).
Commissioning and tuning of frequency servo drives, including servo
/ AC motors Can design and implement industrial communication and
I/O networks.
Profibus DP, Profinet, Ethernet IP or similar industrial
communications networks.
The ability to work closely with other controls engineers
technicians to ensure functional interfaces and installations.
Time Management skills Ability to manage workload effectively, to
plan, organize, and prioritize work and meet deadlines.
Manage multiple projects at once while maintaining project cost and
schedule constraints.
Qualifications:
The qualified Controls Engineer must be well versed in control
systems. This person must be proficient in PLC and HMI programming.
This person should also possess good oral and written communication
skills. Understands advanced software and machine control
engineering principals Robot programming Fanuc RJ series controls,
and ABB PLC programming Allen Bradley RSLogix and Siemens S7
preferable.
Minimal 3-5 years with Industrial controls design and software
experience. Proven industrial electrical design experience and
troubleshooting in both electrical circuitry and PLC.
Experience with Allen Bradley PLC s and HMI s or Siemens.
Experience in industrial networking various communication protocols
including Ethernet, Device net, RIO, etc.
Experience and working knowledge of Machine Vision Systems.
Experience applying machine safety requirements using ISO 12100
13849.
Experience with robotic welding arc, laser, resistance.
Competency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office General knowledge of
AC/DC power, motors, drives/motion control, industrial controls,
pneumatic valves and sensors.
Knowledge of NEC and NFPA 79 Knowledge of Automation Controls and
Risk Assessments.
Familiar with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in
machine control design.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science,
Associates of Applied Science Electrical Engineer.
Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens AutoCad Robotics
experience a plus: ABB, Fanuc, IAI Vision
Experience designing custom controls systems for highly automated
machines (built from scratch).
Project Management skills.
Proven ability to manage details of technical requirements
including task assignments, tracking, and communications.
Experience with the following a plus:
Rockwell Automation AB PLCs (PLC-5, SLC-500,
RSlogix/Studio5000).
FactoryTalk PanelView, PanelView Plus, RSView32, FactoryTalk
Transaction Manager.

Role 3:
Electrical Controls Engineer(Rochester, NY)
Our client in Rochester needs an Electrical Controls Engineer (EE)
to work under the direction of the Electrical Engineering Manager,
primary responsibilities will be to design automation control
systems, including designing/specifying all process controls
required.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with project team members to ensure designs and
documentation are accurate and meet process specifications.
Use of AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD and/or Excel to design I/O
sheets, Electrical schematics, Pneumatic drawings, Electrical bills
of materials, and other electrical wiring pull sheets/architecture
drawings, etc.
Create, organize and maintain design templates which can be
replicated on future designs.
Support panel design to ensure panels are documented properly for
manufacturing, in-house or when outsourced.
Ensure all designs conform to appropriate agency standards for
safety, etc.
Plan and report work priorities to meet project deadlines per
project manager's specifications.
Review component specifications for electrical interface
considerations.
Assist in industrial Ethernet/IP configurations and
specifications.
Make evaluations/suggestions for continual product/process
improvements.
Perform other duties, as required.
Qualifications:
1-3 years' experience in automation control engineering.
BS. Degree in Electrical Engineering/Electronics, or equivalent
experience.
Ability to understand and interpret process and instrumentation
drawings (P&ID), electrical component datasheets, electrical
drawings, control panel layouts, as well as agency standards (i.e.,
NEC, NFPA, UL, CSA, etc.).
Experience reading and interpreting schematics, layout drawings and
P&IDs.
Experience designing process/machine control hardware using Plc.
Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs is highly desirable.
Experience in hazardous area designs (C1D1, C1D2, etc.) a huge
plus. Client will train in this area, but someone with a foundation
working on electrical controls in hazardous environments would be
an asset.
Experience in the Food, Dairy or Beverage industry is a definite
plus (this is good because they can relate to how they will need to
draw things).
