the role and need of the firmware layer that marries the hardware
and the operating systems is increasing in value as the machine
architecture moves to a common unified infrastructure. The
Enterprise x86 Lab (EXL) is a provider of firmware for high end,
scale-up platforms with a focus on being a key contributor of
firmware for the common unified infrastructure platforms. We are
seeking strong and talented leaders who are solution focused, team
oriented, and versed in working across geographies for the optimal
delivery of high quality products on a predictable schedule. Sounds

a Manageability Firmware Engineer to join us! In this amazing role
you will analyze, design, program, debug and modify embedded
firmware (e.g., board support package, Linux kernel driver, custom
hardware initialization, etc.). This often involves working with
analog and digital hardware and Linux operating systems. The
position requires knowledge and exposure to hardware design.
Manageability Firmware Engineers typically program in machine
language, assembly language and high-level languages (e.g., C,
C++). How you will make your mark:
- You will collaborate with hardware vendors to integrate
hardware specific firmware to support HPE boards. This includes
pulling source from vendors and integrating with HPE firmware.
Tasks include but are not limited to, early boot loader, Linux
kernel, kernel device drivers, device tree, and user space
applications specific to hardware feature sets. application
- You will design enhancements, update, and program changes for
portions and subsystems of firmware, with a focus on hardware
interfaces such as FPGA, CPLD, i2c, SPI, eMMC, etc.
- You will help review hardware schematics, debug boards, FPGA,
CPLD, and other hardware components as needed.
- You will work with the hardware development team to bring up
and debug initial prototype hardware, troubleshooting both hardware
and firmware issues.
- You will analyze design and determine coding, programming, and
integration activities required based on general objectives and
knowledge of overall architecture of the product or solution.
- You will collaborate and communicate with management, PCB and
ASIC design groups, HPE common design groups, and external hardware
vendors regarding FW requirements, design status, project progress
and issue resolution.
- You will write and execute complete testing plans, protocols,
and documentation for assigned portions of the firmware stack;
identify, debug, and create solutions for issues with code and
integration into the firmware architecture.
- You will be using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes,
voltmeters, logic analyzers as needed
- You may lead a project team of other firmware engineers and
internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable,
cost effective and high quality solutions for assigned systems
portion or subsystem.
- You will represent the firmware engineering team for all phases
of larger and more complex development projects.
- You will provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced
staff members. Education and experience: ---
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Typically 4-6 years of experience in hardware/firmware
development Knowledge and Skills:
- Expertise in multiple firmware design tools and languages.
- Expertise in Linux based embedded firmware debugging.
- Expertise in open source firmware environment.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of server management architecture and the interfaces
used including I2C, SPI, eSPI, PCIe, Ethernet, and JTAG.
- Designing firmware, including interaction and integration with
- Firmware testing methodology, including writing and execution
of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.
- Ability to interface between hardware and firmware designs
teams. This requires reviewing PCB schematics for proper
connectivity and interaction and integration with firmware
- Ability to effectively communicate product architectures,
design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in
